The waiting for the next generation obviously hampers sales more than expected.
We approach the end of the life of this console generation. While games for the PS4 and Xbox One will continue to come out after this holiday (and of course the Switch), the focus will change rather dramatically when starting the PS5 and Xbox Series X. Of course, there will be a certain decline in sales in these systems, but it seems that the decline is much more than normal.
As the Analyst Daniel Ahmad of Niko Partners (known in many circles known as Zhuge) in detail, the decline in testing the latest NPD report in the same period is much steeper than PS3 and 360. Nevertheless, Nintendos Switch remains stable. Of course, several factors play a role here.
Ahmad continues that we know more about the PS5 and the series X in the time frame than about the PS4 and the ONE. This time before publishing on current systems, we basically did not know anything about them, where we had an official revelation for the series X and a steady stream of PS5 messages. The price of current systems is far more stable than for PS3 and 360, where the price cuts were much larger. The persistent success of Nintendo is probably also attributable that the Switch is newer than the current hardware of Sony and Microsoft and serves the market in a very different way than both.
Both the PS5 and Xbox Series X are published in this Christmas.
