Sony has unveiled a ton of new tits and exciting features to come on the Playstation 5 yesterday during its revelation event. Breathtaking graphics in exclusive games with ultra-fast hardware, PlayStation fans have a lot to wait in the coming year.
However, there is a functionality that all console fans have been looking for for years. This feature would be downward compatibility, which is an Xbox console basic food from Xbox 360. Sony has announced that this feature will be included with PS5, but in what capacity?
descending compatibility on the PS5
In a previous interview, Sony confirmed that descending compatibility will arrive with PlayStation 5. Although the console is compatible with PS4 titles. On the other hand, Microsoft has confirmed that the Xbox Series X will offer downward compatibility with all previous Xbox console titles.
Nevertheless, it's a huge step for Sony because they are late on this feature. However, when launching the PS5, fans will not be able to play any PS4 title of their choice. Instead, only the top 100 PS4 games (ranked by global playing time) will be retro-compatible.
Although this is a little discouraging, Sony said he hopes that almost all PS4 titles will eventually become backwards. It is strangely similar to the launch of the Xbox One, which only offered 360 compatible titles. This list, of course, has increased during the console life cycle.
and PlayStation Now?
A big question that many Playstation connoisseurs arose about descending compatibility is how to work PlayStation Now? The streaming service presented on the PS4 allows users to play a wide variety of PS3 and PS2 games.
As to whether this service will be available for purchase on the PS5 has not yet been determined. However, we should hear a response closer to the launch of the console during the holiday season 2020.
