Together with the publication on Xbox Series X / S, the SIM update 5 for the Microsoft Flight Simulator (from 50.99 € at buy) has been published on the PC. The update includes not only exploration flights, more flight assistants and many adjustments, but also significant performance improvements. This power boost has nothing with DirectX 12 (the interface will be supported later) or to do upscaling procedures such as NVIDIA DLSS, but the developers at Asobo have reprogrammed much of the simulation and the basic engine. These optimizations should reduce CPU usage and increase the refresh rate. We checked the performance increase in three scenarios with the same preconditions (start position, weather, daytime, airplane, perspective, etc.). So the CPU utilization dropped by up to 20 percent compared to the MSF version with the SIM Update 4.

Conspicuous graphics differences after the SIM update 5 have not been detected. Some players had complained about graphics problems after the update (a cause: server problems with world data streaming) as well as crashes. Against the crashes a hotfix patch 1.18.14.0 has been published yesterday (to the change-log). Smaller graphic weaknesses, e.g. Abrupt detail change in buildings or spontaneously poppointing objects, etc., still exist.
