XBox Series X-Design: That's how the console looks like
On the Game Awards 2019 not only the name of the new console was announced, but also appearance and design decisions. So she looks like:
The new Xbox does not look dissimilar to a Tower PC. But do not worry, it can be operated both vertically and horizontally.
Thus, the console goes into a whole new direction: So far, the Xboxes were getting rather wide than high, but this time the device is clearly growing in height.
That's behind the design: The Xbox Series X should be subtle in the players, and the tower design allows optimal cooling. The Xbox Series X has only one built-in fan.
This is how the packaging looks like: The sale box of the Xbox Series S looks like this:
The official logo: and here you see the logo of the console, which is also reflected on the packaging, among other things.

Already at the start of the Xbox 360 in 2005, Microsoft had offered two console models (Xbox 360 Arcade and Pro), which, however, did not distinguish themselves technically except for a few details. So experience with this concept is already available.
That's in the latest update (May 2021)
As with the Xbox One, the Xbox Series X also gets regular updates for the system software. The last update was published in May 2021 .
Quick Resume improved : The most important feature was improvements for Quick Resume. With the function it is possible to start a game, to play another and then return to the first game exactly at the point where you have paused.
On the paper Quick Resume has also very good, only was absolutely not clear which game Quick Resume has and which games on your console currently use the function. Therefore, there is now finally a manager who indicates which game is just stored in Quick Resume. In addition, the charging time was shortened when starting the games.

Alpha update confirms UI changes
Anyone who participates in the Alpha program for updates on the Xbox can now be a great change in the Xbox UI.
FINALLY 4K: The entire dashboard and submenus have so far also displayed on the Xbox Series X only in 1080p. As a result, the menu velvet text was a bit out of focus on 4K TVs. With the update, the dashboard is finally displayed in 4k, but only on the Xbox Series X. Microsoft has not mentioned an improvement for the Xbox Series S.
When the update is unlocked for everyone is not yet known.
Technical data: Which hardware is in the Xbox Series X?
The specs of the next Xbox models are comforting anyone who deals with the upcoming consoles. For a long time, only speculation was announced until Microsoft managed first facts at E3 2019 and published the technical data of the console in March 2020. Here are the final hardware specs:
- CPU: Eight core CPU with 3.8 GHz clocking (Custom Zen 2)
- GPU: 12 Teraflops, 52 CUS (CUSTOM RDNA 2)
- Memory: 16GB GDDR6
- Hard Disk: 1 TB (Custom NVME SSD)
- Erw. Memory: 1 TB Expansion Card
- External memory: USB 3.2
- Drive: 4K UHD Blu Ray-Drive
Custom chipset from AMD
The hardware core of the system formerly known as Project Scarlett is a specially developed for the console Navi 2 chip from hardware specialist AMD with a total of eight cores. Especially fast memory and a new form of SSD hard disks (installed 1TB) should ensure that the Xbox Series X runs much faster than the Xbox One (x) - namely up to 40 times.
Teraflops, RAM and CPU performance of Xbox Series X
The Xbox Series X has graphics realization from up to 12 Teraflops , which is a clear jump compared to the last generation (for comparison: The Xbox One X has a graphic computer of 6 Teraflops). On the other hand, the Series S-model creates only 4 Teraflops, is therefore approximately at a level with the PS4 PRO, even if Teraflop values can only be compared to constraints.

The eight core CPU of the Series X is clocked with 3.8 GHz , which corresponds approximately to the four to five times the speed of the Xbox One X. This is mainly due to significantly better caching and other optimizations of the architecture of the system.
In addition, the console has 16 GB GDDR6 RAM , where 13.5 are reserved for games and are available two and a half for the operating system. At the Series S have games have access to 10 GB. For comparison: The Xbox One X is equipped with 12 GB of RAM.

GPU The Xbox Series X
The central graphic unit will provide a tremendous power jump over the Xbox One Generation. According to Xbox boss Phil Spencer, the Xbox Series X will bring the double GPU power the Xbox One X. Compared to the normal Xbox One, the performance should even be so big eight times.
In the Series X is a GPU with 12 Teraflops, 52 CUs (Custom RDNA 2) .

SSD in the Xbox Series X
Unlike older XBOX models, Microsoft sets a flash-based Solid State Drive Flash-based Solid State Drive (SSD) with a memory of 1TB expanded with one up to 1TB Expansion Card can. The big advantage of this solution is speed: Data can be used to access clearly flotters.
No load times: This increase in speed should then be noticeable in the loading times of games, which either no longer exist or at least drastically returned. Sony also sets a similar feature with his next PlayStation console.
Faster in the game: With the features specified by Microsoft Quick Resume it will be possible to run several games at the same time and jump between them anywhere. The respective game then goes on where it was previously interrupted. That should work even after a reboot or even after a long time to turn off the console.
External hard disks can be used: A connection of USB 3.0 hard disks will continue to be possible at the Series X. However, it is only possible to play downward compatible Xbox One, Xbox 360 and original Xbox title. To ensure the speed for Xbox Series X games, they must be installed on the internal SSD or the optional expansion Card.

Sound of Xbox Series X
The Xbox Series X will provide audio hardware acceleration that means that a dedicated part of the hardware is responsible for the sound. As a result, on the one hand more gimmicks and reserves for this area are possible, on the other hand, however, the CPU is also relieved and accordingly has more capacities for other tasks.
Another advantage is that the surround sound is still more and more active and also common stero headsets can sound like that in the midst of a high-quality sound system. Microsoft's Jason Ronald talks about Audio Ray Tracing.
Other hardware facts (Ray Tracing, 8K, etc.)
- Federates from up to 120 fps (on consoles has so far up to 60 fps have been customary), here Microsoft wants to no compromise
- Variable rate shading (VRS): pixels are no longer calculated individually, but summarized in groups. This reduces computing power, but does not reduce the image quality.
- Resolutions of up to 8k , whereby the more specification should be as a feature as Microsoft itself says.
- Ray Tracing (calculations of indirect light sources, etc.) is possible with the new chipset, and should not be gimmick, but a central feature of the Series X.
- Support from Xcloud. This will make it possible to start games in advance about streaming while the player is waiting for the title download.
- Support for VRR (variable refresh rate)
- HDMI 2.1 Support

Which connections does the Xbox Series X have?
The following ports can be found at the back of the Xbox Series X:
- 1x HDMI
- 2x USB-A
- 1x Ethernet
- 1x electricity
- 1x memory card slot
In addition, a USB A port on the front , which was already visible to the reveeal of the console during the Game Awards. The USB ports are Super Speed versions that should transfer data even faster.
What is the elongated port? In addition, there is still an elongated connection on the back of the system. This is a memory card slot, which can expand the memory by up to 1TB.
No S / PDIF connection: The Next Gen-Xbox no longer has an optical audio port and no S / PDIF connection option according to Microsoft. In a podcast Xbox boss Phil Spencer explains why the Xbox Series X waives the S / PDIF port.
Supports the Xbox Series X Kinect?
Kinect is a sensor that enables voice commands and motion detection thanks to built-in cameras and microphones. The Xbox One was initially delivered exclusively with such a sensor and had a dedicated connection on the back.
However, the lack of success and lack of Support's interest in Kinect became increasingly lower, so that Microsoft ultimately adjusted production and rationalized the Kinect connection for later one models such as the S or X.
While there is no official confirmation from Microsoft, but we firmly assume that the Xbox Series X Kinect should not support, even a new sensor will not be planned for it.
What does the controller of the Xbox Series X look like?
The new controller is very similar to the current model. It was easily adapted in the form and should now be suitable for 98% of all hands, and he has a share button for sharing content in social media.
Also striking: The control cross has been adjusted in the form somewhat, now resembles the Xbox One Elite Controller.
Here you will also find the most important information from the Xbox Wire article from 16 March:
- More comfort: even for smaller hands
- Tax cruise should offer Best of Both Worlds
- Connectivity: More devices, easier connection
- Share Button: Share fast & light gameplay
- Less Latency: Improved Response Speed
- USB-C: Charging with rather available cables
- Operation via AA batteries or external battery
Otherwise, the Series X-Controller has the same button layout and arrangement of Digikreuz and analog sticks, as it is already known from Xbox, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
Faster controllers: The Dynamic Latency Input should provide even lower input delays. The input signal of the controller is synchronized directly with the output signal on the screen, which should erase noticeable latencies.
Controller compatibility: However, you do not necessarily have to use the Series X controllers, but can also use old controllers of the Xbox One. Because the functioning according to Microsoft also with the new console.

Which plays can we count on Xbox Series X?
The lack of high-caliber exclusive titles was one of the big problems of the Xbox One. Microsoft has recognized this and sets up its own developer studio ranks properly. A total of 23 in-house studios, Microsoft has meanwhile summarized under the new generic term Xbox Game Studios.
These studios already work under high pressure on a number of titles. Some of these are still for the Xbox One, others are developed with Series X-Focus.
Officially announced Series X games: Meanwhile, a whole series of titles for the Xbox Series X are confirmed, you will find them all in our list.

Cross gene especially at the beginning of the next generation: Halo Infinite only appears 2021, but both for the Xbox Series X and the Xbox One. And it will not stay, on the contrary. Matt Booty, the boss of the Xbox Game Studios has confirmed that in the first year after Launch all First Party Releases Cross gene will appear on Xbox Series X and Xbox One. Regardless of the games, cloud gaming will probably play a bigger role on the Xbox Series consoles.
Smart Delivery system
Smart Delivery is very similar to Cross-Buy from the idea. If you buy a game in the future on the Xbox One (x) or Xbox Series X, you automatically get the other version, which then adapts to the respective system - buyer of Halo Infinite for the Xbox One thus get on a later upgrade to one Xbox Series X The technically better version for free as a download.
Smart Delivery will offer all the games from the Xbox Game Studios, but other publishers such as CD project RED have already announced a smart delivery feature for specific titles (et al. Cyberpunk 2077). Microsoft does not make developers for this feature.

Downward compatibility of Xbox Series X
For the announcement of the downward compatibility of the Xbox One, Microsoft earned a lot of cheers from the community in 2015. Since then, new Xbox original and Xbox 360 games have been added to the program, according to Microsoft, the feature is very popular with the players.
Therefore, there will be a downward compatibility feature with the Series X. Already during the E3 2019, Microsoft announced:
Learn four content generations like never before.
The first unique indication of the 4Xbox generations (Series X included). From the launch path gets access to your Xbox One games and all Xbox / Xbox 360 titles that were already on the Xbox ONE backwards compatible.
Cool: For many AK games, there will be improvements such as subsequently inserted HDR or higher frame rates.

In addition, the transition will be made easy for us, because other features are taken over, including:
- Gamerscore
- Boy list
- Achievements
- Storage Stiles
Improvements of old games: Developers should in future be able to implement improved boot and loading times, to ensure more stable frame rates, offer a higher resolution of the old games and generally screw the graphics performance upwards.
Dashboard The Xbox Series X
Microsoft uses the same dashboard for the Xbox Series X user interface, which can be found on the Xbox One X after the most recent update. However, the surface with the Velocity Architecture of the console and the SSD memory feels significantly flotter and direct. Functionally, a few new options have come to put something the possibility of setting dynamic backgrounds.

What about VR at the Series X?
In the current console generation, Virtual Reality (VR) does not matter for Microsoft, here you have left the field completely Sony and PlayStation VR. So far, VR is on consoles but anyway a niche as a niche.
Contradictory information: That this is not changing at the next generation can already be read out from the previous rumors and analyst statements.
For, for example, Lewis Ward of IDC assumes that in the context of its developer purchases in the next generation, Microsoft will also be forwarded to VR areas, Microsoft's Mike Ybarra on Twitter described VR technology as not worthwhile so far. Also, patents as well as from a VR mat probably only interpret that Microsoft experiments with ideas, but there is no implementation yet.
This is further supported by a statement by Xbox boss Phil Spencer. According to him, the focus of the next Xbox is not on VR because only a few players would be interested in and VR is a concept that players isolate and less with others.
These statements have made the Xbox boss slightly, but still clearly emphasizes that there will be no VR headset for the launch of the Xbox Series X.
What do you mean to the rumors? Are you looking forward to the next Xbox generation?
